The Kentucky Department
of Education (KDE) and the Department
of Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling at UK (SERC)
are collaborating on this Web page on student behavior. The purpose
is to provide a format that allows school personnel, parents, and
other professionals to gain access to information, to share effective
practices, and to receive ongoing consultation and technical assistance
concerning the full range of behavior problems and challenges displayed
by children and youth in school and community settings, as well
as other behavioral issues that may affect their success in school.

Interactive Features
Teachers, parents, or other professionals working with children who
display challenging behaviors often feel isolated or alone. Many don't
know where to go for help or, many times, the answer to their questions
cannot be found readily. If you have a particular question, want to
share a successful intervention with others, or see what experts in
the field are saying, several opportunities are available.
Behavior
Interventions and School Safety
The goal for most educators, parents, and other professionals is for
ALL students to be successful in school and in life. To reach
that goal, many have adopted a three-tiered model of behavioral support.
Interventions are developed at Universal (school-wide),
Targeted (small groups or individual students),
and Intensive (wraparound) levels to teach
ALL students what they must do to be successful. This page identifies
and provides links to resources for each level of behavioral support.
Academic
Connection
There is no question that students who exhibit challenging behavior
also experience academic failure.
If interventions are designed and implemented to directly teach academic
(e.g., reading) and behavioral deficiencies, schools can improve
students' academic performance and reduce problem behavior. "
Law
This section of the Behavior Home Page provides links to Kentucky and
Federal law. The links are relevant to special education and more specifically,

Organizations
Professional growth is a necessity in the field of special education.
To stay abreast of new, research based techniques, parents, teachers,
and other professionals depend on magazines, journals, and newsletters
provided by professional organizations to keep informed. This section
of the Behavior Home Page provides relevant links to professional organizations
you may find helpful.
Kentucky
Calendar
Here's another professional growth necessity, professional development.
This section of the Behavior Home Page will provide links to the Kentucky
Department of Education, The Kentucky Center for School Safety, and
The Kentucky Council for Children with Behavior Disorders Training Calendars.
